Newport Bay Conservancy in Newport Beach, CA: Sustaining Our Local Environment
The Newport Bay Conservancy is a non-profit organization that seeks to preserve and restore Newport Beach, CA’s favorite bay and estuary. Newport Bay is one of the most diverse ecosystems in Southern California, with over 200 species of animals, plants, birds, fish, invertebrates, and algae living in its waters. The Newport Bay Conservancy has been working for years on improving the environmental conditions of this important body of water by removing invasive species such as green urchins and sea squirts from the bay floor. They also clean up trash from both land and water each day while educating all visitors about conservation efforts. Visit this link for more information.
The Newport Bay Conservancy has created opportunities for people in Newport to get engaged in their local community by hosting events such as monthly beach walks where they can explore the bay while learning about its history and ecology. See here for information about Castaways Park in Newport Beach: The Kid-Friendly, Dog-Friendly Hidden Gem.
The Newport Bay Conservancy also hosts an annual Open House event at which members of the public are encouraged to visit their headquarters on Balboa Island, learn more about what they do, enjoy live music from some high school bands who usually don’t get outside performances like this… and much more!
